Internet looks for dad and child photographed in front of Notre Dame before fire

The Notre-Dame blaze has led to people sharing memories of the building. Even just before the fire.Image: FABIEN BARRAU/AFP/Getty Images The fire which consumed the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris has prompted plenty of tributes and memories from around the world. A now-viral photo posted by Twitter user Brooke Windsor captures what is presumably a father and his child playing in front of the iconic building just before the blaze on Monday. Windsor claimed the photo was taken about an hour before the fire began, and now, she wants to find the pair — with the help of the internet, of course. “I almost went up to the dad and asked if he wanted it. Now I wish I had,” she …

2018 was officially one of Earth’s hottest years

Image: FRANCOIS GUILLOT/AFP/Getty Images France’s iconic Notre-Dame cathedral is engulfed in flames, and officials let Trump know that his suggestions were not helpful.  Completed in 1345 after nearly 250 years of construction, the centuries-old cathedral caught fire on Monday. The exact cause is still unknown, but according to the BBC, officials say recent renovation work could be linked to the blaze.  Horrified onlookers watched the spire and ceiling collapse in the flames.  So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 15, 2019 Two hours later, the French civil security and crisis management account politely subtweeted …

While You Were Offline: Is Homeland Security Being Purged?

Last week was the kind of week where we saw a black hole for the first time, former Stormy Daniels lawyer Michael Avenatti got hit with 36 charges of tax dodging, perjury, and theft, the National Enquirer maybe went up for sale, and Benjamin Netanyahu won a fifth term as Israel's prime minister. If you're wondering what else people have been talking about over the past seven days, these tidbits are a good place to start. Is Homeland Security Being Purged? What Happened: Something is happening at the Department of Homeland Security, with multiple figures being pushed out by the White House and the word "purge" being thrown around like it's nothing. While You Were Offline: Mueller Report or Bust

Welcome back! Did you miss us? More importantly, do you feel like you missed some news last week? It's highly likely that you did—it was a doozy. Not only did President Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen mysteriously find new documents further implicating the president in wrongdoing, news reports outed Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner as someone whom officials thought shouldn't be given security clearance. On top of that, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange came under new threat of being expelled from the Ecuadorian embassy he's called home for quite some time. Perhaps we should consider this a week of old favorites reappearing in the news? After all, it was also a week where Brexit continued to flounder towards disaster, …

While You Were Offline: The Internet Will Forever Fight Over the Mueller Report

Good day to you! Are you ready for some déjà vu? Welp, the GOP, apparently forgetting how poorly it went for them last time, has decided to target the Affordable Care Act again. What else happened last week? Federal prosecutors charged Stormy Daniels' attorney with some pretty major crimes, and Chicago authorities dropped all charges against Empire actor Jussie Smollett. It was also a week in which Spice Girls slashfic turned out to be real, and promotion for the next Avengers movie became a meme. But perhaps most importantly of all, it was the week when Meghan McCain threw shade and the internet loved it a lot. What else has been happening over the past seven days? So glad you …
